Where we cycled in 2018
On Tuesday 23rd October 2018 14 members met at Ambleside Cricket Club. From here David led the group alongside the lovely river Rothay to Ambleside then picked up cycle paths and cycled through Clappesgate and onto Wray Castle. We then had a delightful ride along the western shore of Windermere cutting through the bridleway through Garner Wood and cycled north along the western shore of Esthwaite Water to Hawkshead where we stopped for coffee. A bit of a climb lay ahead to Hawkshead Hill and the Drunken Duck then more or less downhill all the way back to Clappersgate and finally back along the Rothay back to our cars. Approx. 23 miles. Perfect cycling day.
On a very windy day 15 members cycled from Keswick to Threlkeld via Burns and Threlkeld quarry then onto Mungrisdale. Because of the weather we changed the route and just cycled a loop around to Mosedale before returning the same way back to Threlkeld where we stopped for coffee before heading off back to Keswick. Such a challenging and exhilarating ride of 24 miles. 9th October 2018
25th September 2018 First ride after the sign up day and we welcomed 3 new members. Just a short ride of 15 miles took us from Keswick along the Brundleholme Road into Threlkeld, through St. John's in the vale for coffee at The Lodge then returned to the start via Shundraw and Naddle. It was a dry day throughout but we had to contend with strong headwinds in the vale. 18 members cycled.

19th June 2018, the nearest Tuesday to the longest day so it was of course our annual cycle around Blencathra & Skiddaw. Instead of our usual route to Orthwaite we cycle round Overwater then past Robin Hood and down the Rake to Bassenthwaite. Coffee stop at Hesket Newmarket and lunch on the green at Bassenthwaite. Dry all the way and 15 members cycled.

From the village we cycled to Crook and Crosthwaite then cycled under Whitbarrow Scar to Witherslack and then to Gilpin Bridge where we stopped for coffee. 21st/22nd/23rd May 2018 was our annual 3 day away cycling trip. This year we went to Dumfries & Galloway and Ron & Lorna did an excellent job in organising the trip. On Monday we cycled the Glenkiln Loop (23 miles) On Tuesday we cycled from Dalbeattie through the forest on the 7 Stanes mountain bike trail to Colvend, stopping off at Kippford for coffee. We had a second coffee stop at Sandyhills allowing us spectacular views across the Solway to Cumbria. We headed back to Dalbeattie on minor roads - 23 miles again. On the Wednesday we cycled to Haugh of Urr, then on through Castle Douglas and stopped for lunch at the National Trust property, Threave. 19 members cycled today Tuesday 8th May 2018 From Keswick Barbara led the group along the railway line to Low Briery then to Threlkeld. We continued to Scales then crossed the A66 and cycled to Troutbeck via Stoneraise and Wallthwaite. Crossing the A66 again we had a very pleasant ride through to Mungrisdale and then along the gated road back to Threlkeld where we stopped for coffee. Perfect weather for cycling and at just 23 miles wasn't too arduous either.
On 24th April 2018 Helen led the ride from Hesket Newmarket. From the village we headed north via Sour Nook then picked up route 7 through Raughton Head. We then cycled past Rose Castle and onto Dalston. Coffee was at Orton Grange then we returned via Thursby, Curthwaite, Rosley and Caldbeck. 14 members were on the ride today.
Fran led a 27 miles circular route on Tuesday April 10th 2018. Meeting at Castle Inn she led us along the Derwent Valley, through Cockermouth, Brigham, Greysouten, Dean, Deanscales, Pardshaw, Brandlingill, Rogerscale and into Lorton for a well earned break at the Village Tea Shop. We'd cycled in quite windy conditions so a break was most welcome. The return to Castle Inn via Armaside and Embleton was equally windy and cycling was really quite hard going. The 13 members thoroughly enjoyed the ride though.
On Tuesday 27th March 2018 12 of the Social Cycling group met at Greystoke. Lorna led us through Blencow, Laithes, Plumpton and on to Gt. Salkeld. We stopped in the village for a look at the historic St. Cuthbert's Church and were fortunate enough to be able to climb right up to the top of the bell where where we had far reaching panoramic views. Luck was on our side as we came across a coffee morning in the village hall where we enjoyed huge mugs of coffee and toasted hot cross buns. Setting off again, our next stop was the Pot Place at Plumpton where again we stopped for more refreshments. Social Cycling at its best!. Just a few more cycling miles saw us back at Greystoke, good timing too as it just started to drizzle heavily.
Ron led the ride on Tuesday 13th March 2018 10 of us met in Ireby and first of all cycled a short loop of 6 miles taking in Whitrigg and Torpenhow back to Ireby. Setting off again from Ireby we then passed through Boltongate, Thackthwaite Hall and Brocklebank and had refreshments at Priests Mill in Caldbeck. It was a near perfect day for cycling but was tough going heading into the wind to get back to Ireby. Total mileage was approx. 24 miles but the route was very undulating.
Tuesday 27th February 2018 again the weather conditions didn't allow us to cycle.
