Cycling - Easy Wheelers
Group Convenors - Mark Bradley
Skiddaw U3A has three cycling groups Easy Wheelers, Social Cycling and Power Biking, meeting on alternate Tuesdays for the first two and every fourth Thursday for the latter. Please note that all three groups operate administratively as a single group so by signing up for this group you are also joining the other two.
Easy Wheelers do a ride of between 10 and 20 miles trying to avoid the more strenuous of the Lake Districts hills, rides are at an easy pace. We have a stop for elevenses at a café for coffee and cake. In order to achieve a variety of rides that avoid hills and main roads we often travel away from Keswick. Rides are adjusted to the seasons and if weather conditions are too bad rides may be postponed or cancelled.
Full details of the ride are sent to group members by email on the weekend before the ride.
All types of cyclists, including electric are welcome, however the precautions taken by councils to keep motorbikes off cycle tracks may caused problems for recumbent bikes and tricycles, where these are known in advance it will be noted in the ride details. Members are automatically joined up to all three cycling groups (see note above) but we suggest that new or returning cyclist ride with the Easy Wheelers first to get a measure of the level of fitness required.
