From the fibre (wool, cotton, silk etc) to the woven or knitted fabric, there are a dozen or more processes and requirements. Which of these took place where? How? When? Does, for example, “Carding Mill” Lane give us a clue to the past? Where – and what – are the “retting steps”?
The textile heritage group explores this rich heritage in Keswick and beyond. We find out about the fibres, the processes, the places, mills and factories and about textile related industries. We touch, we feel and we have a go and we visit relevant places.
We have been meeting at Greta Gardens Bistro, with the kind permission of Helene, once a month on a Monday morning 10-12, but may arrange other days/times to suit visits and speakers.
