Table Tennis & Darts
Out table tennis group was set up by chance, I was playing bowls one day and whilst waiting my turn to bowl I was mooching around and noticed some gym equipment stored in the corner of the hall where we were playing. Amongst the equipment was a table tennis table covered in dust, I pointed this out to some of the bowlers and it was soon agreed that we should clean up this table and arrange to have a go at table tennis.
We decided to try playing on alternative Wednesday to bowls and this has proved to be a popular idea and before long we had 10-12 regular players. It soon became obvious that one table was not going to be sufficient to keep all players occupied so a second table was needed. So with the money from our subs that had built up we bought a second table and this has been most enjoyable with a regular group of 10-12.
We are a friendly group who, when we first started could hardly hit the ball and spent more time chasing it around the room. Our oldest member is Alan 84yrs old who was at one time a champion player for Lancashire, he has still not been beaten by any of our players.
If you would like to join us you would be very welcome there is always room for more players and even if you’ve never played before we are not competitive. We play for fun and to socialize and make friends.
We meet every other Wednesday in the Ecumenical Centre 2pm until 4pm with a tea break in between.
Due to holiday arrangements darts and table tennis have been cancelled for Wednesday 15th June
