Photos - Great Gardens of Ireland Trip
The Gardening Group visited the Great Gardens of Ireland on a 4-day coach trip in July 2018. Each garden was unique and spectacular. Many of the amazing views were impossible to capture in a photograph but a sample of pictures are included here. Day 1 - Kilruddery Estate. We had a guided tour of the magnificent house and then spent hours exploring the gardens.
Day 2 - Powerscourt Gardens. Rated in the "Top 10 Gardens in the World" this gardens had an extraordinary series of Italian terraes, a walled garden, harbaceous borders, ponds, Japanese Garden, and a Pet Cemetery for a wide variety of four-legged creatures (including a favourite cow).
Day 3 - Irish National Stud and Gardens. Our tour guide, James, gave us a fascinating (and humorous) overview of the breeding program while introducing us to some of Ireland's most famous champion race horses. We then explored the two garden areas - St Fiachra's gardens and the Japanese Garden.
Day 4 - Mount Usher Gardens. Two of the gardeners gave us extensive tours of this magnificiant estate. The gardens emphasise informal planting in harmony with the natural setting.
Our seaside hotel was in a lovely setting with several clearly marked trails to explore the rugged coast.
and of course, we enjoyed some lively evening entertainment (including the England Football WIN!)
