Local History 1
(Formerly 'Local History')
This Group explores the history and events throughout Sussex.
Group Coordinator: | Sue |
Days/times: | First Monday of the month, at 2.00pm (starts September) |
Venue: | The Shoreham Centre, Room 2 |
You might be a long-standing resident with memories of your own or a relative newcomer wishing to learn about the area but together we will explore not only Shoreham and Southwick but also Worthing, Brighton, Hove and Portslade too. There will also be times when we will “travel” throughout Sussex as a whole.
This is a participatory group rather than one led by an expert and therefore members are requested to undertake a little research and share with the group.
In the past we have explored Cinemas past and present from Worthing to Portslade, The History of The Theatre Royal, Brighton, and Chichester Festival Theatre, The Valiant Bomb crash in Southwick, The Devil’s Dyke Railway, The Chain Pier, West Pier and Worthing Pier, Wagner’s Churches in Brighton, Former Brighton Hospitals and we celebrated 200 years of the RNLI, to name but a few.
In the coming months members will be posting a postcard from Sussex, we will look for Lost Villages in Sussex and by December we’ll be Screaming in Sussex!
Please remember that ideas are always welcome from members throughout the year.
