Kurling and Carpet Bowls
The group meets on the 3rd Friday afternoon at 2pm until around 3.30pm - in the Main Hall at the Shoreham Centre
The meeting dates for 2020 are:
Those of you that have not come across Kurling it is based on Curling on Ice, only it is played indoor with plastic kurling stones on 3 ball-bearing wheels which the player slides down the room to the target. It’s a fun game but one where skill can be acquired, if you are lucky. Sometimes it goes well and other times not.
Kurling can be played by everyone no matter what their fitness or mobility level, and this probably accounts for why it Is becoming increasingly popular in U3As around the country, because it is a sociable time. Fit members can ‘launch’ the stones in a similar way to playing bowls. Those that are not so keen or able to bend down or who need to sit can using a pushing tool. That’s the majority of the group at the moment.
Our carpet bowls are version specially designed for use in a restricted area.
Although most members participate in the games this is purely optional. Members can just come along and enjoy watching the play and encouraging others if that is their preference, or sit and have a cup of tea and chat.
