Walking 2 - Monday Strollers

Hi everyone

Welcome new and old(?) members to the Strollers Walking Group.   I am very pleased that you have signed up to join our walks and all the details are below.

All walks are on the 3rd Monday of each month meeting at 9.45 for a 10.00am start unless advised as different, starting in September. The walks are 3 - 4 miles in length.

Full details will be sent out approx.1 week before each walk by E mail. I have attached the draft programme of walks but more suggestions are needed and/or offers to lead are gratefully received.

We try to arrange lifts if required. I will supply contact details of the Transport Organiser when I send out the details before the walk, and she will try to put you in touch with a member who lives near you. If you are happy to offer lifts to others in the group who do not have transport and are happy for your contact details to be given to another U3A member, please let me know your phone number as soon as possible which I will pass on to our transport co-ordinator. If you need a lift contact details will be supplied in the e mail giving details of the current walk together with details of voluntary sharing the petrol costs.

If you wish to attend please ring the leader on the morning of the walk between 8.30-9.00am to check that the walk will be still going ahead. Please bring your new membership card to show me on your first walk.

Leaders are needed for each walk, and we would not be able to continue these walks without volunteers to lead, so please consider maybe offering to lead your favourite walk. It will need to be walked in advance to check that it has not changed since your last visit and that it is not too muddy and that there are no new obstacles in place.

Next Walk
On Monday 21st October we will be walking along the Ilex way, Goring, down to the coast and have refreshments at the Bluebird Cafe before returning to the cars. As usual we will be meeting at 9.45 for 10.00am start on the corner of Ilex Way and Aldsworth Road in Goring. If you are not sure of the meeting point give me a ring on 01903 765642.

The leader will be Fleur, please ring her on 01273 461404 on the morning of the walk between 8.30 and 9.00am to advise if you are coming and/or to check if the walk is not cancelled due to the weather. If you require a lift please ring her 3-4 days before the walk and she will try to put you in touch with someone who lives near you. If you are able to give lifts to other members please let Fleur know so she can add you to the list of willing drivers.

For drivers, the mileage from Shoreham to Ilex Way is approx 8 miles each way, equating to £4.80, a voluntary contribution is requested to be shared between driver and passengers.

If anyone has any ideas what we can do for our December meeting on 16th December please let me know on the number

Please contact me via the Bluebird if you wish to  join this walking group and give me your contact details so I can send you more details.

 Leonie U3A Strollers co-ordinator.

PLEASE NOTE: everyone must be a current Shoreham & Southwick U3A member and walks at their own risk and U3A cannot accept any responsibility for walkers personal safety although coordinators do try to advise on any known dangers e.g. stiles, rough ground, beware the bull, etc!   Please wear suitable clothing, including long trousers, walking shoes/boots, bring walking sticks if required and bring any medications and fresh water. Please ensure you have your mobile phone with you and turned on in case of emergency and that you have my mobile number 07904 976446 stored so that you can get in touch with me if needed. You must have emergency contact details with you either on your mobile phone listed under ICE (in case of emergency), or put ICE in front of the names of those people you would like contacted in an emergency, or write your Emergency Contact Details on the back of your U3A membership card. These places would be checked by Emergency Services for information should it be needed. It might be an idea to keep a list of your medications or carry a copy of your perscriptions with you, perhaps in your purse or wallet or whatever you take with you when you go out and about, not just for our U3A walks and outings.
