Shoreham & Southwick

Groups information

All groups open to all members

All members are invited to attend any group. Individual group numbers may be limited by the size of the venue or for other practical reasons - so please contact the group's Coordinator in advance. If groups do become full, we try to get additional groups started wherever possible. If a group you are interested in is full, please email our Groups Administrator to register your interest, using the email contact box on this page.

The ethos of U3A is for sharing together in the teaching and learning, and for participation in the group's activities - which research has shown to benefit wellbeing. This may be by helping with research or preparation of material for sessions, leading a walk or a session, or just by generally assisting with the running of the group.

Small groups meet in members’ homes, and larger groups in hired accommodation, for which a meeting attendance fee is payable. Members may also be asked to make a small donation to their group to cover the cost of tea and other incidental expenses.

Some groups may already be full, but membership changes all the time, so do please enquire through the Group Coordinator - use the Contact link on the Group page of interest.

Thinking of starting a new group?

Members are always free to suggest a new interest group for Shoreham & Southwick u3a, ideally (but not necessarily) with a view to running it as Coordinator.

In the first instance, please contact Groups Support (groups@shorehamandsouthwicku3a.org.uk), who will be happy to help. Groups Support will advise on whether a similar group already exists, and offer help with meaningful naming if necessary. If you already have several members who are keen to join your group, that will give it a head start.

Once your group has been approved and is on the ‘system’, the webmaster can add it to our website, and create an information page for you, based in information you provide, like a description of the group’s activities, when and where it meets, etc., and the means for interested members to contact you.

Closing a group?
In the unfortunate situation of needing to close a group, for whatever reason, again please contact Groups Support, who will offer support if the group might be rescued, or to go through the formal closure of the group on the system and on the website.
