The Play Reading Group has 8 members, all ladies. We meet monthly on a Friday afternoon at 2 pm in the home of a member in the centre of the town.
The group leader (Jackie Finlay) selects and casts a suitable play each month, producing a sheet of notes about the play and the characters each member will be playing. At the end of each play reading session, lively discussion and exchanges of views ensues about the piece. The following month’s script is then distributed for the members to take home and study their roles.
The chosen plays vary in their range, with comedies being more frequently chosen than dramas due to their appeal to the cast members. Members have found that exploring the lives and problems of so many assorted characters has proved to be occasionally challenging but always rewarding and most enjoyable.
Our group members suggest and discuss ideas about the future plays we might consider reading as we try to vary the genres of plays and playwrights as well as our accents!
