Walking and Hiking
We have eight groups for walkers and three for hikers. There is also a weekend hiking group.
Except for the F3T and weekend hiking groups, most groups meet monthly at various locations. The walkers walk 4 to 5 miles usually ending up in a pub or restaurant, the hikers walk 6 to 12 miles and may visit a pub on the way or may end up in a tea room.
We have a rule that members can only "belong" to one walking group and/or one hiking group but may walk as guests with other groups at the group leader's discretion.
Walks 1, led by Martin and Jacqui, meet every 3rd Thursday
Walks 2, led by Richard and Brenda, meet every 1st Thursday
Walks 3, led by Judi, Judi and Alan, meet every 2nd Wednesday
Walks 4, led by Jo and Allyson meet every 2nd Thursday
Walks 5, led by Liz and Allan walk between 4.5 and 6 miles and meet every 3rd Tuesday
Walks 6 - Easier Walking, led by Stephanie and Julia, meet every 1st Tuesday
Walks 7, led by Richard and Brenda, meet every 3rd Thursday
There is also a "Strollers" group, walking shorter distances, aimed at those who are unable to manage the longer distances, hills and/or stiles but would still enjoy a stroll with good company in the fresh air.
Hiking 1, led by Mary, meet every 4th Thursday
Hiking 2, led by Andrew, meet every 1st Thursday
F3T Hiking, led by Bill, meet twice a month every 1st and 3rd Tuesday
Members of each group are encouraged to organise and lead walks - usually once per year. Help and advice with organising a walk is available from the group leaders and we do have a good library of walk books available.
The Weekend Hiking Group, led by Neil, meet up about 3 times per year in various locations around the country and undertake a longish (8-12 miles) walk on the Saturday followed by a shortish (3-5 mile) walk on the Sunday.
