There are currently five French Groups: French Conversation 1 & 2, French Language & Culture, Think French and Forgotten French.
French Conversation 1 meets weekly on Monday mornings during autumn, winter and spring in the home of the leader. It is a group of Francophiles with roughly the same language skills who discuss a range of subjects including current affairs in France as well as personal interests with a French flavour. This year, we will read a modern French novel and watch short documentary films to illustrate various regions of France. There are 10 participants and regular commitment is expected.
French Conversation 2 is a new group starting September 2019 and meets Wednesday afternoons.
French Language and Culture meets weekly on Monday afternoons during autumn, winter and spring in the home of the leader. This year we will learn about the various regions of France using short documentary films followed by discussion on historical, cultural, economic and geographical aspects. We will also read a modern French novel. There are 10 participants and regular commitment is expected.
Think French meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons. Each week, two articles in French are given out together with a helpful translation of some of the more difficult words or turns of speech. The following week we play the audio recording for each article and class members read a paragraph, in turn, in French and translate it. There may be a discussion in French relating to the subject. After some refreshment, we cover further grammar, or vocabulary.
Forgotten French meets fortnightly on a Thursday morning.
