Music Appreciation 2
Music Appreciation 2 is an informal, convivial group which meets on alternate Wednesday mornings, between 10.15 and 12.15 in the Camelot Room, Village Hall, Milborne Port, where there is plenty of free parking.
All the members choose a piece of music on CD to play and talk about. We do have quite a bit of discussion after each piece of music has been played, and people are welcome to say what they liked, or if it was not for them. There is no theme but strangely one often appears. For example one morning tranquil music will be chosen by several people or, there may be a predominance of choral, or bright and cheerful pieces. We play any genre. If people would like classical, they bring it, but the same applies to jazz or film music. It is surprising how much we learn from each other. Recently we have been introduced to music by Kalbrenner, Gyrowetz, Krommer and Paisiello for example, but we still fit in old favourites like Beethoven, Mozart and Frank Sinatra.
We have a mid morning break for tea or coffee and chocolate biscuits. There is a lot of chat and laughter and Tom sometimes has to ask several times if we are ready to start playing music again. We have three terms per year, each having seven sessions, and the termly fee is currently £4 to cover Hall hire and catering.
