Mah Jong
Mah Jong is an eastern game rather like cards but played with 144 tiles.
The aim is to collect sets of three tiles within a particular suit - bamboo, circles or characters along with winds and dragons for added interest.
It is mostly a game of chance and fairly easy to play despite the unfamiliar names. Once you have mastered the basic game you can learn the special ones which earn more points. That's if you get them out; otherwise it's nil points!
We play in groups of 2-4 depending on the number of members present. Ideally there are four players to a game. The aim is to make a specific collection of tiles to give the highest score.
Normally there are four players to a game but we adapt that to encompass everyone attending: ie we can play with three or even two people. This actually helps when first learning.
Meetings take place privately in Shaftesbury and we welcome both experienced players and novices. Newcomers to the game are easily accommodated.
If you would like to learn or you are an experienced player please do get in touch, and even if the group is full we can guide you on your way, perhaps to make a second group.
