This Group started in March 2017 and was created for those who, like myself, could hardly distinguish a robin from a crow. I wanted to learn at least 24 different birds by the end of the year. Since its inception the group has steadily grown to 12 members of which an average of 7 come each month - I depend on not having all members at one time as my room will only sit 10 comfortably!
I am pleased to report that in that time we have covered 44 birds and as long as they stay stationary, are about 2 feet in front of us and are in their breeding plumage I could recognise them!! Although initially anticipating that this group would be a short term affair, there are so many birds still to be investigated that I will carry on for another year.
Clearly it would be ideal if there was an expert available to provide the tuition, but the current arrangement fits perfectly with the U3A ethos. The Group normally meets on the Friday after the monthly U3A meeting.
This group relates strictly to Bird Identification. Those wishing to be involved with bird watching (in nature reserves etc), should give Brenda Benstead (convenor for the bird watching group) their name and then she will let them know when such an outing is planned.
