Monthly Speaker & other Events

The Scunthorpe & District branch of the u3a meets at St Paul's Church Hall, Ashby High St, Scunthorpe. DN16 2JR at 2.15 p.m. on the 4th Friday of the month.

Members normally start to arrive from about 1.30pm. Any announcements are made at 2.15pm and the meeting gets underway with the Speaker afterwards. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available from 1.45 to 2.00. A list of Speakers is included below.

Fri Apr 26th Alan Beadle : The History of Speedway in General & Scunthorpe in Particular

A very personal choice. Alan will tell us about a little known but once hugely popular sport “Speedway”. Pat used to sponsor a rider at Sheffield and , as a consequence, became heavily involved in the sport. Alan will tell us about speedway in general and Scunthorpe in particular. Did you know that a Scunthorpe born rider became a World Champion?

Our A.G.M will be followed by a representative from Lindsey Age UK who will tell us about their work.

A representative from North Lincolnshire Heritage Trust will come and tell us about their amazing work on local airfields.
Fri Jul 26th Liz Walsh : Clash of Cultures

A look at 8th and 9th century music, with an opportunity to hear a variety of replica instruments from that time.
Fri Aug 23rd Ann Louise Pickering : Inspired by Nature

Anna Louise Pickering is the daughter of Pollyanna Pickering, the renowned animal artist. This lavishly illustrated talk will bring a new understanding of the inspiration behind Pollyanna’s award winning paintings. We take a look at Pollyanna’s remarkable career and will also learn about the work of the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation.
