Limerick by Adrian Turner
Report upon the 2019 Golf at Portrush Northern Ireland.
Prologue:
An imaginary report in the “Limerick Times” [Where Else???] of the recent Golf Open Championship, an event much influenced by weather.

A golfer who went to Portrush
Found the fairways looked pleasingly lush,
But a Gale Force Five
Sent his very first drive
Away left, deep under a bush.

This brave golfer from Spain
Thought: “I’ll give it a try once again”,
But alas his endeavours
For prizes and treasures
Were drowned in ten inches of rain.

His partner from upstate Wisconsin
Was a grandson of President Johnsin.
It was blowing so hard
That he tore up his card
And waved goodbye to his stetsin.

The weather went from bad to worse
And Golfers and Caddies began to curse
But as the course became wetter
One Irishman played better:
He unfurled his brolly,
Then went off his trolley
When he won the two million pound purse.
