NEWQUAY

Although we had rain, our holiday in Newquay, Cornwall, was very enjoyable and it didn't spoil the holiday for 23 of our members. The Barrowfield Hotel was comfortable, the food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside about the hotel was the quality of the nightly entertainment. We all felt that two sessions of bingo every night was too much, (we didn't really want any bingo), and also the format of the evening was the same, quiz, bingo, quiz answers, singer, break, bingo, singer! A variety would have been nice. However a spot of dancing was very welcome by some of the group, and others enjoyed playing a game of Dobble [a children's game really!].

Our day trips to Falmouth and St Ives were good too. Some of our group splashed out on clothes, others went into the excellent maritime museum in Falmouth, and others browsed the shops and had coffee and cake. One of our group, she knows who she is, went on the beach at St Ives and tried to hold back the waves but she didn't have any success, only wet feet! Well done for trying though. This lady also won our quiz AND one of the hotel quizzes too!!!! She may have to be banned from taking part next year [ha, ha]. Another of our group enjoyed a lovely crab sandwich, expensive but delicious and this same lady was most disappointed that M&S had closed in Falmouth and she was not able to buy her favourite cheese straws [which she has with rhubard????}.

It was unfortunate that the June monthly meeting had to be cancelled at very short notice, and Ann and Alan spent most of their free day contacting members to let them know. Thanks to you both only one lady turned up [name not known].

On our free day some stayed in Newquay, others spent a lovely day in Padstow, and some of us went on the bus to Crantock where some very happy childhood memories were talked about. It was then on the bus to Perranporth, a very, very dog-friendly resort where they could have their own flavoured ice creams, although our little group had their own ice creams - delicious!

Our driver Steve did an excellent job of getting us to Newquay and back without any problems, not too much traffic, and relatively quick journeys. This holiday was our first with InterChoice, Wolverhampton, and we were looked after very well.

Let's see where 2020 takes us???
