PLAY READING

Leader Pat Perry - NO SESSIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO ILLNESS

The Play Reading Group has read several one act plays written by members of the University of the Third Age throughout the UK, and many of them have been involved in professional performances or productions.

In order to get to the heart of the script the group tries to read it through at least twice during the group meeting. Everyone gets a chance to play a role, sometimes even taking an alternative character. Then time is taken to discuss the meris of the play and any underlying message. Other, longer plays have been read, ranging from Sheridan's 'The Rivals' to 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall.

As with many drama related projects there is a shortage of males so there is plenty of room in the group for new members of both sexes.

It won't necessarily be a stepping-stone to the West End Theatre, but play reading does help to improve self-confidence, possibly prior to venturing onto a stage. The group is non-threatening and friendly with humour playing its part, even when the play being read is a more serious script.

Pat is always looking to welcome new members.
