TORQUAY

On 27 March, our group of 26 set off to spend five days in Torquay. After a good journey we arrived at the Derwent Hotel and settled in for our stay. The hotel was quite big and the facilities excellent, including outdoor and indoor swimming pools, sauna, steam room, jaccuzzi, ten-pin bowling, indoor bowls, table tennis and snooker.

After settling into our rooms we went down to the restaurant for dinner - excellent! Lovely food with good choices, and the staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful, and this was the case during the whole holiday. During the week there were comedy acts and singers,

Our trips out went very well and we spent an enjoyable few hours in Paignton, Totnes and Newton Abbot. A visit to Trago Mills also saw some of our group spending their money on various goodies and even visiting the restaurant. On our free day, some people went on the bus to Brixham and enjoyed the lovely weather and pretty harbour, and others went to Babbacombe where they visited the model village and played crazy golf, which was a bit crazy I believe! Torre Abbey and the Living Coast were also visited by some of our group, and they enjoyed their visits very much.

A ride on the little train into Torquay proved very interesting and its journey took us into Torquay, around the main shopping area and up to the harbour then return via Torre Abbey. A good way to see the town and hop on or off as you wish.

The evening entertainment at the hotel was quite good and several of our very keen members took part in the Bingo sessions. Unfortunately we did not have any winners. Members of our card school played several games but again no huge winnings! Most of our group went to the theatre in Babbacombe and watched a very good show featuring singers, dancers, comedians and a magician, including the excellent Steve Laister who also came along to our hotel on the last night, and he was excellent. Well worth a visit to the theatre, and thanks to our coach driver for organising this.

There was also a charity tombola at the hotel on our last night, and a few very lucky teddy bears, pussy cats, monkeys and other wildlife were found new homes in the West Midlands courtesy of our members. It must be mentioned though that these were NOT real animals!!!! Our coach driver may have had something to say if they had been!!!

At the end of our stay we all said what a lovely holiday we had courtesy of Plimbley Travel. We were very lucky with the weather and saw quite a bit of sunshine. Looking forward to the next one - roll on 2018.
