About U3A
The word 'university' is used in its general sense to signify the meeting of groups of people with common interests. Our U3A reflects the interests of its members and covers the widest possible range of educational, cultural, recreational, physical and social subjects. It is a self-help organization and depends on group leaders volunteering as to when and how these interests are offered. The first organization in Britain involving learning for people no longer in full-time employment was started in 1982 as part of the 'Third Age Trust'.

Saltburn District U3A became an independent group within the UK U3A in April 2005 and obtained charitable status in May 2005 (No.1109691). Currently (July 2018) the group has over 800 members who are drawn from a wide area of East Cleveland, including Saltburn, Marske, New Marske, Loftus, Skelton, Easington, Brotton and Redcar.

Membership runs from 1st April to 31st March and the annual subscription is £10

Groups cost £1-50p per session

Groups that do not incur venue costs ie cycling walking etc the fee is still £1-00p

There are around sixty groups in Saltburn District U3A and most have between ten to twenty members attending a session. There are, however, a number of larger groups in the organisation.

If you are retired, semi-retired, or are planning to retire and are wondering what to do with your time, why not join us. We are a lively and friendly organisation and we offer a wide range of creative, leisure and study groups.

Grab a cuppa and join us on Feb 4th at 10am for all the latest news on groups and events. A speaker has been arranged for the February meeting and this will be John Regan. John very kindly provided the following information:

"I am self-published author and poet. To date I have published seven novels and one book of poetry (to raise funds for a local charity.) in addition to this, my wife, Victoria and I started a publishing enterprise in 2019. The aim of this was to provide help and advice to writers on self-publishing. We offer proof-reading, copy-editing and story/character development. Our aim is to make this affordable for the writers and ensure that their work is seen in the best possible light.
My talks usually consist of a little background on how I began writing and what inspires me. But also, I like to explain my love of words and how they are used from day to day. I do try to add a little humour to my talks with examples of stories, poems etc."

Hope you can make it.
