About u3a
The word 'university' is used in its general sense to signify the meeting of groups of people with common interests. Our u3a reflects the interests of its members and covers the widest possible range of educational, cultural, recreational, physical and social subjects. It is a self-help organization and depends on group leaders volunteering as to when and how these interests are offered. The first organization in Britain involving learning for people no longer in full-time employment was started in 1982 as part of the 'Third Age Trust'.

Saltburn District u3a became an independent group within the UK u3a in April 2005 and obtained charitable status in May 2005 (No.1109691). Currently (October 2023) the group has 743 members who are drawn from a wide area of East Cleveland, including Saltburn, Marske, New Marske, Loftus, Skelton, Easington, Brotton and Redcar.

Membership runs from 1st April to 31st March and the annual subscription is £10

Groups cost £1-50p per session

Groups that do not incur venue costs ie cycling walking etc and online Zoom classes the fee is still £1-00p

There are around sixty groups in Saltburn District u3a and most have between ten to twenty members attending a session. There are, however, a number of larger groups in the organisation.

There are no age limits, U3A is for people no longer in full-time employment.

If you are wondering what to do with your time, why not join us. We are a lively and friendly organisation and we offer a wide range of creative, leisure and study groups.

Visit our monthly update meeting, 1st Friday each month (May for AGM).

Admission is £1, doors open at 9.45am, coffee and tea are available prior to the start of the meeting at 10.15am. An update of u3a activities will be given, interest sheets for new groups will be available and we have a New Members Table for anyone wanting further information about our u3a. You can join, pick up the latest list of groups, talk to Committee members or Group Leaders and enjoy a chat with other members. Everyone is welcome.
