Bridge 4 Beginners and Improvers social
Impact of Coronavirus - please note this group is suspended until further notice. Please check the SDU3A website regularly for updates. Thank you.
This group meets weekly on Friday mornings, 10am - 12noon at the Gleneagles Centre, New Marske. It is a sociable bridge group which welcomes beginners and improvers.
If you haven't played before, have wondered what it's all about, but not been sure how to get started … this is for you.
Complete beginners are very welcome and will be taught by Graham in a friendly supportive way. You'll be given a basic handout on the "ACOL" bidding system, which you need to learn over the next few weeks (sorry!). The ACOL bidding system is recognised internationally. You'll also learn some of the jargon and correct way to do things, so that you'll be able to move on and play anywhere, when you feel ready.
Bridge is a partnership game (no need to bring one) where you and your partner work together to find the best "contract", with the aim of gaining more points than the other partnership at your table.
You need to be able to count up to 40 and, later on, develop your memory for what cards have been played. So it's really good exercise for the little grey cells.
Please come along and try it and, above all, have fun and enjoy playing the international game of Bridge.
Improvers will know all the above and Graham will be able to help you develop your skills further. Improvers play "at the other end of the room" and you'll find us a sociable and supportive group. If there are "additional" players, they usually only sit out for 2 hands before joining in, so you'll not be "out" for long.
