GROUP LEADER: Michael Sime
VENUE: Member’s home
DATE AND FREQUENCY: We meet weekly on Monday afternoons, 2:00 - 4:30pm.
DESCRIPTION: The most recent group started in Spring 2019 and continued until Autumn 2020. Unfortunately we cannot now take new members and the group is on hold until Autumn 2021. It will be announced on this site if and when a new class is to be started.
The group is intended for absolute beginners and was formed to learn "social bridge" based on the Standard English ACOL bidding system.
For our formal lessons we start with a 20-30 minute lesson and then play for a couple of hours. I email lesson notes after each lesson, usually with a quiz of some sort.
We start the course by playing 'mini bridge' which is bridge without bidding, using a point count to determine the declarer. This is an introduction to learn card-play and some basics of the bidding requirement. Then in the Autumn we will start learning bidding based on basic ACOL over some 30 lessons. The whole process takes about 2 years allowing for the usual holiday recesses.
It is all meant to be casual and enjoyable, but does need a commitment and some effort beyond the actual classes to read and digest the lesson notes and complete the quizzes, etc.
