READING

We meet once a month to discuss and compare thoughts on books with others who have read the same texts. We stay focussed (or try to!) for the first half of the meeting to share opinions, consider themes, characters and the style of writing.

We have tried works by classic authors, debut novels and also everything in between. Our meetings can be lively, we rarely agree, but the spirit of the group is informal. The camaraderie ensures lots of giggles along the way. A coffee break facilitates sharing film, theatre, opera, holiday recommendations - sometimes even book ideas too!

This is a popular group and we currently have a waiting list to join.

Usually the first Monday in the month (but changes due to Bank holidays and clash with Playreading group) - 1.45 pm to 3.30 pm at Mowbray Gardens Library, Herringthorpe Valley Road, S65 2UH

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-ORDINATORS
Hello from the Ru3a reading group. The twelve of us meet monthly to discuss our thoughts on a selected book, share news and of course enjoy tea and biscuits. We have been welcomed over the years by the library staff of Mowbray Gardens. Texts are scored out of ten for story and writing, totted up giving an average mark. If you would like one of our recommendations here is our top ten. The list has a mixture of the classics, established authors and debut novels.

Top Ten Scores
1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
2. The things we never said by Susan Elliot Wright
3. Poison Wood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
4. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
5. Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
6. Betrayal by Helen Dunmore
7. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
8.The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
9. Atonement by Ian McEwan
10. Alone On The Wide Wide Sea by Michael Morpurgo

We are over-subscribed with a waiting list but would love to see another reading group become established. If you are interested in reading and considering starting another group we could give lots of advice and support.
