COVID 19 - UPDATED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR Ru3a GROUPS, MARCH 2022

The Ru3a Trustees have discussed (Trustees’ Meeting 8th March 2022) the most appropriate guidance for Ru3a groups now that the UK government has relaxed previous restrictions.

The Trustees recommend that members remain aware of updated information from the government.

Although Ru3a members will no longer have to confirm that they have: undertaken a lateral flow test / are Covid-19 free / not been in contact with anyone who is infected, nor will they be required to wear face covering, the Trustees encourage members who feel unwell to remain at home and return to the group when they are fully recovered.

Members should sign in/register at their group meeting as pre-Covid. The Trustees recommend that Ru3a members continue to take care in these times of uncertainty. The virus is still with us and it is important that members are mindful of hygiene, good ventilation and maintaining personal distance.

The Trustees hope that all Ru3a members stay safe, well and continue to enjoy the friendship and activities offered by Ru3a.

TWO NEW PILOT GROUPS: CALLIGRAPHY AND SPANISH

1) CALLIGRAPHY:

The new pilot Calligraphy group met for the first time on Monday 25 April, 10.30 - 11.30 at Broom Methodist church. We have enough members interested in joining this group and it will initially run as a pilot group. If successful it will become a full Rotherham u3a group. We welcome people of all levels of ability from absolute beginners to the more accomplished ones. If Calligraphy interests you and you are not already on the list, please contact Lesley White on 01709 518248.

2) SPANISH - LEARN SPANISH WITH THE U3A

Spanish Pilot Group: An experienced teacher has offered to lead the language sessions. Due to demand 2 groups will now be running, with one group being held on Monday mornings at Broom Methodist Church and the second group taking place on Wednesday mornings. This is a great opportunity to learn Spanish, the world’s second most spoken language and make your holidays in Spain or South America, even more enjoyable.

If successful the pilot groups will be offered as permanent u3a groups. They will start on 9 and 11 May respectively.

Anyone who is no longer in full time employment and is interested in finding out more please contact Tricia Macredie on 01709 370899.

THIRD AGE MATTERS MAGAZINE - Message from the Third Age Trust

The Third Age Matters will arrive in Early May. This slight delay is due to the Trust moving to a new printer following the issues experienced with the winter edition. They hope this move will limit any further delays in delivery in the future.

The Spring issue will be another great read, with tasty recipes to make u3as 40th Anniversary Picnic in the Park go with a swing, 40th Anniversary events, members’ inspiring stories, favourite walks and much more.

MEMBERS' MEETING and SOCIAL FRIDAY 4 MARCH

On the afternoon of Friday 4 March at Herringthorpe United Reform Church the Trustees, Co-ordinators and members heard updates on groups and upcoming visits planned by the Gardening and Out and About group. There was a collection of clothing donations for the Ukranian people and Rebecca Dickinson from RMBC who is helping and advising Ru3a on our Tree Planting project gave an insight into what is needed to proceed with our project. Rebecca also answered questions from the audience. Everyone enjoyed the refreshments of hot drinks, delicious cakes and savouries during the break when members took the opportunity to view the stall where the Card Making group had been invited to exhibit cards for sale on the day and Co-ordinator Yvonne Cooper donated generously to the Tree Planting project.

It is hoped this type of event can be repeated and we thank everyone who helped to make the meeting a success.

Lesley White, Chair of Trustees
