Wine Appreciation
We meet: at The Abbey Church Rooms, the second Tuesday of each month 7pm until 9pm
Coordinator: Derek Morley
Our Activities: The aim of the group is to develop our knowledge and skills of the tasting of wines by regular lead tastings and vineyard visits.
There is a joining fee of £5.00 per person for membership of the wine group. In addition there is a charge per person per evening for those attending, which covers the cost of the wines being tasted. We usually taste 6 wines per evening.
Our capacity is 25 members which has been reached. If more u3a members wish to join maybe a second group could be started which we are willing to help set up. Our Archway u3a Group are starting a new wine group if you are interested contact Janet Moody using Blue Envelope opposite.
The majority of evenings are led by members of the group! To date we have tasted red and white Rioja from Spain, wines from Chile & Argentina, Albania and Portugal, as well as learnt the difference between Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and tasted Sauvignon Blanc from around the world. We visited Settley Ridge, Hambledon and Brookhill vineyards, had a number of fun quizzes and delightful summer garden party's ! We are a relaxed and informal group!
