Events

Monthly meetings are held in the Romiley methodist Church on the fourth Thursday of the month between 2.00 and 4.00 pm. After the guest speaker has made their presentation, information relevant to the members is discussed and where feasible, the recent and future activities of one or other group described. The afternoon ends with refreshments of tea/coffee and biscuits being served.

On Thursday 25th January Philip Caine gave a talk "From Barrow to Baghdad" The talk took us from his leaving school to begin his career as a chef and hotel manager. His life working on the oil rigs, work in Algeria & Nigeria, Kazakhstan & Russia and of course Baghdad, culminating in Dubai.
The talk was full of interest, anecdotes, humour, & inspiration.

Henry Buckett
An Artist 1 of only 2 in the North West who talks about and demonstrates the style of the artist Bob Ross CRI.
He created a beautiful painting before our very eyes!

Firelight Country Folk & Blues & Beyond.
Singing and Talking
Firelight is well known in the area, performing in a number of venues around the town and in Derbyshire. The musicians, Phil and Pen, are proficient in a number of instruments including the guitar, dobro, harmonica, mandolin etc. They treated us to a number of songs to get our feet tapping, together with information about themselves and their instruments.

Thursday 25th April.
Two speakers from the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society will give a talk on "the Restoration of Danny". Danny is a 120 year old Alt Deco designed steam Tug (No 15 on the national Historic Ships list).
The Danny, as the ship is affectionately known, includes stunning Art Deco saloons which have been restored to exactly as they would have been in 1936, complete with, curved bar, wooden panelling rumoured to have come from the Oceanic fleet of ships and original tables and chairs which are evocative of a past time of shipping and celebration.
The Society operate cruises along the Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal.
