The Shakespeare Workshop Group normally meets every 3rd Tuesday in the month [except August] at The Meads,South Crescent, HG4 1SN [off Harrogate Road].
We normally meet from 2pm to 4pm, with a break for a drink at about 3pm.
The cost is £1 per member per session to cover the hire of the room
Our aim is to examine many of the plays of William Shakespeare in order to set them in their historical and dramatic context, to analyse the relationship between the characters, and to re-enact selected scenes. No previous experience is necessary, but simply an interest in the work of our greatest playwright.
Members are asked to bring along their own text of each play. A 'Complete Works' is good, but even better is an individual play-text which contains performance notes. The recommended text is the series of RSC editions edited by Jonathan Bate and Eric Rasmussen, and published by Macmillan.
After an interesting recent group discussion it was decided that we shall now take a break until the New Year, when the Group will reform to analyse and re-enact selected scenes in a Workshop format from many of the plays previously studied. Consequently our next meeting, when the Group will reform, will be on Tuesday 21st January 2020 at 2pm at the Meads, and then on subsequent 3rd Tuesdays in the month.
The first Workshop will be based on scenes from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" .
