Redditch U3A Rambling Group

Group leader: Joan Davies

The group meet on the first Wednesday morning of the month. We start at a pre-arranged pub car park and usually walk for between four and five miles, with a break for coffee.

Each month a different person leads the ramble which has been checked beforehand. This means we have a varied programme.

At the end of the walk - which usually takes two to two and a half hours, we return to the pub and most of us take lunch, and perhaps a small drink! We are also joined by some of the walkers' partners which makes a convivial end to our ramble.

COVID UPDATE

I am sure like me you have really missed our monthly rambles although no doubt once loc kdown ended you have been getting out regardless. I am hoping that we could start doing our monthly rambles from September but of course there will be certain rules to abide by, which I have outlined below. It would be useful if you could let me know if you think you are likely to join in the walk this month. I will then be able to circulate details of the walk. I would welcome any comments you have too.

By the way, Pam and I will lead the ramble next month, but I don't have anyone for October if anyone is willing to offer.

The Rambling Secretary will email the members of the group with details of the walk and the starting place and time.

Whoever is on the list that we use for that month’s leader(s) will bring at least 4 copies of the route, one for each group leader.

Two or three smaller groups (depending on how many people turn up) of up to 6 people start the ramble at 15 minute intervals and the first group will phone the next group to say when and where they have stopped for a refreshment break. NB Exchange mobile numbers with each group leader before setting off.

With the details of the ramble each month, the following reminders will be included:

Do not join if you have recently become unwell
Take responsibility for social distancing
Bring hand sanitiser and a first aid kit
Wearing of a mask is personal choice

I will send everyone a copy of the risk assessment form for use when planning a walk.

Each group leader must make sure they keep a record of the members of their group and remind them of the Covid risks. I have a database of everyone’s contact details. Leaders to keep the record of the members in their group for 21 days.

It is good practice if we all carry hand sanitiser and a first aid kit, plus spare masks for those occasions when we are leading a walk.

As normal, the walk will be cancelled in the event of bad weather.

This can only work if we are all agreeable to leading a small group.

Car sharing

You should try not to share a vehicle with those outside your household or support bubble. If you need to do this, try to:

share the transport with the same people each time
keep to small groups of people at any one time
open windows for ventilation
travel side by side or behind other people, rather than facing them, where seating arrangements allow
face away from each other
consider seating arrangements to maximise distance between people in the vehicle
clean your car between journeys using standard cleaning products - make sure you clean door handles and other areas that people may touch
ask the driver and passengers to wear a face covering
