Redditch

Rambling Group

Secretary: Joan Davies

The U3A rambling club meets on the first Wednesday of every month, weather permitting, to ramble along circular routes of up to 5 miles. The chosen ramble is led by different people in the group.

Each month, the details are emailed round, including the number of stiles and how steep etc, to inform people before they turn up, so they can make a choice to join or not. There is always a coffee break half-way round. Lunch afterwards is optional and is usually taken at a pub from where we set out. Members are encouraged to offer to lead a ramble, usually in pairs, but this is not mandatory.

We try to car share where possible and usually meet first at Crabbs Cross car park unless the ramble starts very close to Redditch: this is always stated on the flyer each month.

Ramble Report: No.361 Wed 6th December 2023 - New End and Cladswell

The rambling group set off on a bright crisp morning for our annual Christmas walk. We parked at the Nevill Arms just outside Redditch. Despite the amount of rain we had had recently and the notorious clay soil surrounding Redditch, our leader chose a route which not only gave us lovely views of the surrounding countryside but kept our feet comfortably dry.

These walks are both a social occasion and an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. We covered about four miles and we were back in good time for our Christmas lunch. Some went for the full seasonal menu, while others, like myself, had a delicious baguette with chips and salad. The Nevill Arms did us proud.

Many thanks to our walk leaders, Pam and Jenny, and our walks organiser, Joan.

For anyone interested, we have an organised ramble each month, starting and finishing at a pub, normally on the first Wednesday.

Dates for your Diary
Wed May 1st u3a Walk Number 366
1 May 2024 Willersey and Saintbury

Leaders: Joan Davies, Pam Rose and Jennie Sutor
Approximately 4 miles

The walk begins at 10:00 from the Bell at Willersey, Main St, Willersey, Broadway WR12 7PJ, or meet at Crabbs Cross Car park to leave at 09:00. You can park in the pub car park or on the road in the village. The route goes through Willersey and across land and footpaths through Saintbury and back. It is reasonably good underfoot, mainly on paths and tracks. No stiles but an incline up to the village of Saintbury on the footpath. There are some beautiful views from the top and a gentle walk back to Willersey.

Elevenses and lunch are optional.
I have provisionally booked for 14 people at 12:45 at the Bell Inn in Willersey, and I will take orders for lunch before we set off. The menu was attached to the email.
