Discussion B - Discussion with a difference - Group Leader: Jan Martin-Ellis
If you'd like to come to a discussion group with a difference, this is the group for you. What is the difference? That's up to you, the group members. The idea of this group is to keep off current affairs and politics and have a more unusual type of in-depth conversation. Jan has plenty of ideas of topics to talk about, and hopes we can have some stimulating and in-depth conversation and if anyone wants to introduce a subject they are burning to raise, please do!
In the February meeting, our conversation started with one or two items currently in the news, but ranged mainly around some interesting ethical and moral issues, such as whether to tip or not and if so, how much; whether charities should accept donations from contentious sources, and so on.
During the March meeting, in an effort to look at the coronavirus issue from a slightly lighter-hearted viewpoint, we looked at the psychology of panic buying. This led to an amusing discussion, yet with a serious undertone (but not too serious). We finished off with a short talk about reporting matters like potholes and abandoned vehicles and whether and how quickly the Council responds.
The April meeting will be on Wednesday 8th April.
