Discussion B - Discussion with a difference - Group Leader: Jan Martin-Ellis
If you'd like to come to a discussion group with a difference, this is the group for you. What is the difference? That's up to you, the group members. The idea of this group is to keep off current affairs and politics and have a more unusual type of in-depth conversation. Jan has plenty of ideas of topics to talk about, and hopes we can have some stimulating and in-depth conversation and if anyone wants to introduce a subject they are burning to raise, please do!
At the September meeting we first talked about the idea that "you don't stop playing because you grow old, rather you grow old because you stop playing". Once we'd exhausted this we moved on to the idea that although our experiences and attitudes throughout life have made us who we are today, is it possible to change the habits of a lifetime and if so, how hard is it to do? Opinions differed here but it all made for a challenging chat.
At the November meeting we started by discussing how horrible it is when passengers on the tube, bus or train sit there eating smelly take-aways and whether it is now time to ban these on the tube, in the same way they've banned alcohol and smoking. The subject then turned briefly to the sad situation in Hong Kong, and then we lightened up a bit talking about Memory, is it a blessing or a curse? A pleasant two hours was passed by us all, and we would welcome any new members who'd like to make a contribution.
Please note there is no meeting of this Group in December; we will return on Wednesday 15th January 2020.
