Redbridge & District

Meet the Committee

This is how the Committee members present themselves:

Liz K Liz Kite, Chairman and Acting Groups Co-ordinator
I joined the Committee as assistant tea maker but had to take over the role of Groups Co-ordinator very soon afterwards, a role I enjoyed very much for many years. I stood down from that role to become Vice Chair followed by taking on the role of Chair. I also serve as a delegate to the London Region of u3a's.

Susan Whiterow, Vice ChairmanSusan
I became a member of the u3a following my retirement as a Senior Administrative Officer with a Local Authority a few years ago. Since joining I have learnt to play Bridge, enjoyed Line Dancing, Tai Chi and currently Yoga, plus taking an active part in the Patchwork and Embroidery Group. I anticipate enjoying other groups within the u3a as time goes on. I look forward to being able to continue to contribute towards the running of our u3a as Vice Chair.

Lennart Christensen, Treasurer and CommunicationsLennart
I have been a member of the u3a for a few years now. When I joined the Committee I was given the job of editing and producing our magazine, Noticeboard. The Redbridge & District u3a website and a newsletter has since been added to my portfolio. I have also taken up arranging London Theatre Visits, and I serve as a delegate to the London Region of u3a's. My background is in journalism and media monitoring, but I finally retired from my working life in 2017. I look forward to continuing my commitment to our u3a as Treasurer.

Loretta Loretta Mather, Secretary
I have recently retired as a Learning Support Assistant at a local Primary School. Since joining the u3a I have enjoyed local and London walks. I also do voluntary work for Norwood and help children with reading at Roy Lodge Primary. I look forward to contributing to the running of our u3a as Secretary.

Elaine Mitchell Elaine Mitchell, Membership Secretary
I retired from full time employment in March 2019 after which I joined the u3a. I belong to a number of groups which I really enjoy, not just for the subject matter but also the other u3a members I have met and become friends with. I would like to become more involved with the u3a and believe with my past experience I could be an asset to our group.

Nicholas Levin, Speakers OrganiserNicholas
I became a member of u3a after retiring from 30 years Practice as a Property Lawyer. I am a keen traveller and linguist and lead the Getting Around In France and Italy language groups. I was co-opted onto the Committee three years ago and look forward to contributing to its running as Speaker Organiser.

Silva Chamberlain, New Members Support NN female
I joined Redbridge & District u3a recently having retired from work some years ago. I used to work as bilingual translator for British and Foreign embassies. I enjoyed attending the interest groups that I have joined. I was asked to join the committee and certainly it will be a challenge for me to do so as I haven't been involved in anything like this before.

NN male Howard Mather, Publicity
I enjoyed a career journey, from accountancy to trader to the board room via compliance, revenue generation, consultancy, and executive management. I have been fortunate to have undertaken a variety of managerial roles on both the Buy and Sell sides within the Financial Services Industry. I have also been active in the local management work for Diabetes UK, plus marketing and revenue with BHF. During Covid-19 I have undertaken the management and distribution of food and essential supplies to those in need and/or being shielded.
