Group Leaders Day 2013

The Group Leaders’ Day was held on Wednesday 14th May 2013 at Saxon Hall. It was a positive and lively day with an interesting speaker – thanks to Pete & Maureen Huntly; the morning discussion groups had four questions to debate with the 46 group leaders and attending Committee divided into four groups. Each group presented a flip chart summary of their discussions.

Following a welcome at 9.45am by our Chairman, David Sheffield and the agenda being set out, our speaker, Patrick Wilkins, retired Senior Fraud Squad Detective and, subsequently, Senior Wandsman at St. Pauls Cathedral, presented a fascinating hour (with slide show) of his work at St Paul’s, mountaineering experiences and charity work in Nepal and his Christian work in a remote Leper Colony.

After a coffee break we discussed and debated the following questions followed by a Q & A session and a summary by the Chairman.

1. Are you happy with the combination/balance of Educational and Social activities in our u3a? What additional Educational subjects would you like to see?

2. Do you have any ideas you would wish to add to our Social Calendar?

3. With many members wanting to join group activities but reluctant to come forward to manage them, how would you increase involvement – in this self help organisation – to encourage participation?

4. What would you do (if anything) to improve the running of our u3a?
The questionnaire feedback was very positive although seven forms were not returned

The meeting concluded after an excellent two course lunch which was enjoyed by all.
