Rayleigh

Royal Variety Party Night

IN CELEBRATION OF THE QUEENS DIAMOND JUBILEE - 8TH JUNE 2012

The event was organised by a small team of members of the Rayleigh U3A – Janet Carlton, Joanne Baker, Pat and John Pomfrett, Maureen Huntly and Maureen Hayes.

On the day of the event a team of volunteers decorated the hall and David Carlton & Pete Huntly helped behind the scenes. The hall looked very festive bedecked with bunting, balloons, flags and poppers.

The show opened with Master of Ceremonies and Magician Extraordinaire, John Pomfrett who welcomed everyone to our night of festivities.

The show opened with the invited Hadleigh U3A Ukulele Band who gave us a melodious rendition of favourite songs from the last sixty years. The Rayleigh U3A Drama Group, unrecognisable in their wigs and makeup, began their play. Sadly this ended when a member of the Group fell ill and the curtain came down.

A plated supper was served after the Comedian finished his turn. The fabulous Jubilee Raffle saw people winning a television, good wine and tea for two at the Roslin Hotel and many other goodies.

Everyone danced the night away to the music and singing of Pete George, a favourite with our members.

The evening ended with everybody joining in singing a rousing chorus of "Land of Hope and Glory" and "God Save the Queen"
