London Book Club Tour

We travelled by coach to London’s Charing Cross area stopping off for a welcome cup of coffee in the Crypt Restaurant at St Martin’s in the Fields. We had great fun browsing in picturesque Cecil Court which links Charing Cross Road to St Martin’s Lane. The shop fronts have not been altered in more than a century and the traditional hanging signs announce specialists in rare and antiquarian books, maps and prints and all manner of related printed material including stamps, postcards and banknotes.

After a short coach tour passing places with literary connections we arrived at Fitzroy House where we had a delicious lunch in the dining room. This was the home of the founder of the Church of Scientology, L Ron Hubbard. With 19 New York Times Bestsellers and 3 literary Guinness World Record Titles including 'Most Published Author,' he is one of the most prolific writers of his time.

In the afternoon after we visited the British Library and saw treasures such as Magna Carta and original manuscripts and items associated with famous literary figures including Shakespeare, Dr. Johnson, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte to name a few.
