FAMILY HISTORY 2
This group usually meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month ten times a year either at my home or on field trips to various archives. As most of the members were beginners I took them through a programme from getting started to civil registration records, census records, parish registers and probate/wills.
Other topics covered so far include online photographic resources, family history software, Scottish and Irish resources, making use of social media (Facebook/Twitter), historical newspapers online and using Search Engines. Trips have been made to the London Family History Centre, “Who Do You Think You Are” Exhibition at Olympia, the British Newspaper Library, Tower Hamlets Archives, Essex Record Office, the Society of Genealogists and the National Archives at Kew.
Topics we will be covering this year include Wills and Probate Records, Monumental Inscriptions and Gravestones, Online Photographic Resources, School, Apprentice & Work Records, Directories as well as reviewing member's progress to date and helping solve sticky problems or irritating dead ends.
