Due to the current Government Coronavirus rules, we have cancelled all Group and Main Meetings until further notice. We hope to get back to normal as soon as the rules allow.

BUT...we are still 'open for business' and operating as best we can:

  • we send out a monthly newsletter by email and post
  • we send out regular email up-dates
  • some of our Groups are using Zoom for their meetings
  • we now have a monthly outside Zoom speaker
  • we have a Facebook group page with 74 members
  • we are still supporting our members wherever possible
  • your committee is meeting regularly via Zoom
  • a new 'Latest News' page has been set up on the website
  • we are training the committee and group leaders in how to use 'Beacon'
  • our 2021 membership renewal process has just started

National Website
This is a reminder to all members that there are many training and learning opportunities available on the national website: u3a - Home - all free of charge.

For example, there are several good tutorials on how to use Zoom: u3a - Online Tutorials

Zoom Tutorials
They have been running Zoom tutorials since March 2020 and will continue to run these every week as long as there is a demand from u3a members. The tutorials are run by u3a Trust Volunteers. You can book tutorials on the site. There are various dates currently available in March.

Introduction to Zoom
The aim of this session is to help you become familiar with the basics of how to use the Zoom platform, what you can do on it, some of the functions and how to be safe. This is aimed at novices to gain confidence is using Zoom.

Hosting meetings for Group Leaders
The aim will be to cover the basics on organising and inviting members to meetings, meeting protocols, managing your group, and showing slides. This is aimed any anyone who runs their own meetings and would like to do so successfully. The session is aimed at Group leaders, Committee Members and anyone interested in finding out how to host a meeting.

** Zoom pro licence **
Rayleigh Grange u3a are now in possession of a Zoom pro licence to hold meetings longer than 40 minutes.
We can:
> Host up to 100 participants
> Increase participants up to 1,000 with Large Meetings add-on
> Group meetings for up to 30 hours
> Social Media Streaming
> 1 GB Cloud Recording (per license)
If any Group Leader or member wishes to take advantage of this facility and use it for a Rayleigh Grange u3a purpose please get in touch with Ann Clarke-Overy, via the 'Contact' page above.
If you wish to hold a Group meeting via Zoom, Ann can facilitate this.

** Membership 2021 **
Renewal of membership has started and at reduced rates due to the pandemic. Emails have been sent out to all members. If you haven't had either an email or a letter please contact Susan Neil. Full members only £5, Associate Members only £1.50. We hope this will encourage you all to remain a member for 2021 when we hope to get back on track. Our membership is still open to new members. ** MIRTHY Free Online Talks **
Mirthy broadcast educational and entertaining online talks by the best public speakers for U3A members across the country. A free talk is broadcast every Thursday, which is open to join.

** NATIONAL u3a **
To view all National Office events, offers and official documents, go to the U3A Main site and sign in as a member. You will need to create a new account if you haven't signed up before. Click on the Monthly National u3a News Email to register. (Jan 2021)

** New FACEBOOK Group launched **

A new Rayleigh Grange U3A Facebook Group has started. It is a 'Closed' Facebook Group and will only allow members of our U3A to join the group. All members of the group will be able to make posts but no-one outside of the group can see what is being posted. It will be a resource for our members to share and exchange ideas, news, stories and experiences.

You need a Facebook profile to join. Search in Facebook for 'Rayleigh Grange U3A' and click on 'Join'. We will check you are a current Rayleigh Grange member by asking your email address for confirmation and then allow you access. (May 2020)
