Looking @ art

Leader: Please use carrier pigeon

I have to admit that the virus has won - despite equipping ourselves with protetive masks and gloves it seems as though travel into London to visit galleries is still a long way off for most of us. Art galleries and museums are planning to open with strict rules governing how many visitors will be allowed to enter at any one time. Restricting ourselves to being one or two metres apart has made it impossible to complete the programme of visits for 2020.Thank you to all of you for your wonderful support over the past eight years and I hope to send you good news later in the year.

Melvyn Bloomfield

Availability: waiting list for full membership - ad-hoc members welcome

PLEASE ALWAYS CHECK WEBSITE FOR ANY CHANGE OF DATE/TIME as visits are booked more than twelve months in advance and galleries sometimes ask to a re-scheduled visit. Members make their own way to the galleries and travel directions are given for each visit.

LOOKING@ART groups visit art collections in and around London for talks on specific topics by art lecturers. There is usually much more to a painting than mere wall decoration, and professional lecturers direct our attention to aspects of history, technique, symbolism etc. behind the picture.

Looking@Art membership is full and I am unable to offer any more secured places on the group as galleries and museums restrict the number of visitors in any one group. However, each month, there are usually three or four places available due to holidays, illness or previous family commitments and I am happy to fill these with ad-hoc members who are always welcome. Ad-hoc members will be welcomed to join our visits whenever one of the regular members cannot attend and are asked to pay £10:00 for each visit they join. Previously we have always been are able to offer places from the wait list but it is important that requests to go on this list are sent by email to melinda320@me.com

Programme for 2020

Below is the provisional programme for 2020 - as far as possible visits have been booked for the first Tuesday morning each month but at times we have been restricted by gallery/venue rules and have needed to book a different time or date !!

Although full membership is full we try to accommodate ad-hoc members when there is room. U3A members should contact Melvyn via the carrier pigeon or by email about two weeks before the visit they wish to join so that their name can go on a waiting list. All members make their own way to the galleries; ad-hoc members are asked to pay £10.
