Radlett & District

Groups

Radlett & District U3A has a number of Study Groups. For information about them click on the links at the bottom of this page.

A few study groups are run jointly with neighbouring U3As with agreement from the Study Group Coordinator of the U3A in question. In all other cases it is necessary to be a current member of Radlett and District U3A in order to attend our groups.

Potential new groups
Some people have expressed and interest in the following potential new groups. If you would be interested in joining / leading such a group please contact the Study Groups Coordinator at the monthly meeting or via the carrier pigeon on this page.

  • A Chamber Music (playing) group - we have a violinist who is interested in this but is looking for other players
  • I am considering starting a new group, to be called Equus - which you have probably worked out refers to the horse and all things horse-related. My suggestions are that there will be a number of talks, open to all members, on such topics as ‘The history of the horse, evolution etc’, ‘Breeds of the horse and Breeding,’ ‘History and development of the modern thoroughbred’, ‘racing’, ‘What is dressage?’. There are a number of outings that would be of interest such as to Local studs and racing stables, The National Stud in Newmarket and the Horseracing museum which is also there, The Royal Veterinary College equine hospital, Race course visits in summer and winter for National Hunt racing.

Joining a Group
If you are interested in joining an Study Group you should contact the leader. You can send an email directly to the leader of an Study Group by clicking on the carrier pigeon icon in the top right hand corner of the web page for the Group. To check which groups have availability on the days that you are free click here Group Availability PDF or here Group Availability Excel.

Starting a Group
If you are interested in starting a new Group, but don't know where to begin, there are various links to the right of this page. These will give you an idea of what can be done. If you do decide to try, you will be supported by the local Groups Co-ordinator. A group page will be set up for you on our website and it will be advertised at our meetings and in our publications. Radlett and District U3A own a laptop, projector and screen, a telescope and a laminator that are available for groups to borrow. There are also National U3A subject advisers on many topics, they will have specialist knowledge to help you. The U3A Resources Centre has a collection of non-book material available for all U3A groups to borrow free of charge, except for the cost of return postage. There are DVDs, CDs, videos, slides and audiocassettes available in many subject areas. You don't have to be an expert to start a group, so please consider trying it.

WARNING Some of our groups and activities have risks associated with them and require you to be reasonably fit and capable of undertaking them. If you are uncertain of your capability in taking part in an activity please discuss this with the group leader or your doctor as appropriate. Please note that the U3A insurance does not include personal accident cover.

If you are interested in any of them please click on the carrier pigeon to send a message to the groups coordinator who will pass your information on.

REMEMBER, to join a group you should first become a member of U3A.
