Preston Park

Welcome to our latest Update, with news of next month's activities

1. The next Pub Quiz is on Tuesday August 2nd, at the Ladies Mile pub. We start promptly at 2.30, so please aim to be there well in time. Cost of £3 includes tea/coffee.

2. A reminder that there is no meeting in August, as the hall is being closed for refurbishment. However, we will be having a u3a day in Preston Park on Saturday September 24th, and Christine Hooper would like some help organising this.

3. Looking further ahead, in November 2022 we will be marking Preston Park u3a’s 15th birthday. So instead of our usual monthly meeting, on November 3rd we will be holding a celebration, with a slide show of some of the events and activities over the past 15 years, followed by a tea party. Tickets (FREE) for the meeting are limited to 100 to comply with the hall regulations, and will be available in the next few weeks. Val Ellis and Jeanette Dyer will be looking after that side of the day, but please e-mail Alan, so that he can forward your request on.

New Group - House Plants
We are hoping to run a new interest group to share your enjoyment for all things related to house plants. This will be a beginners group, so expertise is not required initially as it will run on the basis of the whole group pooling their knowledge and learning together. However, if you do have a measure of expertise then do make yourself known as your help would be most gratefully received.
Initially the group will be run in members’ homes which will have the advantage of providing the opportunity to show off your prowess so far.We will be looking to start the group in late summer/autumn but would be grateful if you could register your interest now. Please contact Philip Haughey -, 01273 557058 or Madeline Peasgood – 01273 508620

Beeb’s Trips
Lymington, Saturday, 3rd September. £20.00
This is always very popular. Lymington has an “old-fashioned" English market on a Saturday morning, all along the High Street.
We will travel though the New Forest, on what Dave Cooper (B&H Coaches), and I call our magical mystery tour.
Dep: 6 Shirley Avenue 08.30 (no parking restrictions on a Saturday or Sunday); Withdean car park 08.45; Preston Drove Sainsburys 09.00; Black Lion, aka Miller & Carter, Patcham, 09.10. Return approx. 14.45, tbc.

Finally, quite a few of you have asked if we are going to arrange another legendary holiday. We are considering this, but it would not be until 2023. It takes nearly a year to plan it, book it and organise it. Again, if you would like to express an interest, please let Alan or Caroline know.

Here is the link to the monthly newsletter:
This includes a nice report on the Summer School at Chichester, which next
year will move from June to early September.

As always, if you have any notices or information you’d like included in the September Update, please send to me by August 28th, at, or phone on 01273 705111
