PRESTON PARK U3A DECEMBER UPDATE - EXTRA

I was having a bad morning earlier - there are three items I missed out!! Many apologies for another e-mail to make amends.

1. Firstly, we had a report of this scam from a member:

"BEWARE OF THIS SCAM - For those of you whose phone company is O2 - be aware that there is a serious scam around - I was called by a supposed O2 employee each day this week saying that they were offering me a 50% discount on my monthly subscription. An automated text message would be sent by 02 and all she needed from me was that code. I was too busy to respond until this morning but I was a bit suspicious as the text message with the code warns you not to give that code to anyone even if they say they are from 02

I just phoned 02 direct and was congratulated for being vigilant. Apparently they log into 02 with your mobile number, say they can’t remember password, which then automatically issued the text with the code. If you give it to them they can log on and see your bank direct debit details and start ordering large costly items!!

Perhaps you can warn the others as this is real and according to O2 many have been caught out and no doubt the scammers will move onto other mobile suppliers
Very glad I was suspicious and phoned O2 myself"

(As it happens, I myself got a letter this morning through the post, personally addressed to me, offering to share the proceeds of a dodgy Bitcoin deal. I thought these sorts of scams had disappeared, but they're still around. Do NOT touch!!!)

2. New Year tai chi taster class - Because several people have expressed an interest in tai chi, we’ve decided to offer a 2-month taster course in January and February. This will be a one-off Wednesday morning class from 11:15 to 12:00 in Knoyle Hall, commencing 5 January and ending 23 February. Class size will be limited to around 15 students and there will be a charge to cover the cost of the instructor’s fee and hall rental.

If you’d like to try something new and get some exercise after the holidays, while meeting up with fellow U3A members, please get in touch to reserve a place on this short tai chi course. Contact Christine Wieting on 01273 556914 or malchris@btinternet.com

3. At the AGM on Thursday. we will have the coilection basket for donations to Whitehawk Foodbank - this is our regular Christmas collection. If you'd like to contribute but won't be at the AGM, you're very welocme to bring any items to our house, 8, Brangwyn Avenue. Thanks in anticipation!

No more now until the next Update!!
