HERITAGE VISITING GROUP

DESCRIPTION: We visit museums, cathedrals, major historical sites and other heritage locations about a dozen times a year.
Whenever possible, guided tours are arranged. Visits usually include the chance to lunch in groups.

Heritage Visiting Group - 2022 Visits
Email John Colman - jlacolman@icloud.com - to reserve a space on any visit or to be put on the HVG mailing list. Bookings are made on receipt of your cheque (or payment) payable to “Preston Park U3A no. 2 a/c”. Please read the full HVG booking conditions set out below. Visits are open to all members of PPu3a on a first come first served basis. Payment by cheque usually confirms your place on the visit.

27th May - Leeds Castle, Maidstone, Kent
Coach pick ups 0930-0945 to arrive at 1115. Departure at 1630 to arrive in Brighton about 1800. Many kings and queens of England have visited or lived here. Cost £28 for travel and entry. Now booking, cheques please.

17th June - Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire
Coach pick ups 0830-0845 to arrive at 1100. Comfort break on the way. Departure at 1600 to arrive in Brighton about 1830. Comfort break on the way. We are visiting on Friday 17th June because there is an air show on the Saturday and Sunday. There should be lots of air activity. This is the most important British air museum and also has an American air museum. Cost £40 for travel and entry. Now booking, cheques please.

1st July - Fulham Palace, Fulham, London
Meet At Brighton Station at 0915 or Preston Park Station at 0920. Rail to Blackfriars Station then 25 minute tube to Putney Bridge Station, arriving about 1125. Short walk across park to Palace. This is the medieval former home and gardens of the Bishops of London. Return rail travel Thameslink only at any time in groups of 3 or more. NB your rail tickets will not be valid at Victoria Station. Cost £18 for travel only. Donations to Fulham Palace are strongly recommended as it is a small charity. Now booking, cheques please.

August. No visit.

23rd September - Buckingham Palace State Rooms, London
Meet at Brighton Station at 0955. Rail to Victoria arriving 1109. You will have 45 minutes to walk to Buckingham Palace with a coffee/comfort break on the way. 12 noon timed entry. Delgado guided tour of the State Rooms takes about 2 to 2.5 hours finishing in the gardens. NB return rail in groups of 3 minimum restricted after 1559 Victoria departure until 1958 service. Not yet fully arranged. Taking reservations

14th October - Chatham Historic Dockyard, Kent
Coach pick ups 0915-0930 to arrive at 1100. Departure at 1600 arriving in Brighton about 1745. An amazing visit with lots of Royal Navy history and an amazing rope factory (free but pre-booking needed) This is where much of Call the Midwife is filmed and a CTM tour is available at an extra £5 per person. Coach and entry £29 or £34 to include Call the Midwife tour but NB only 25 spaces on this tour. Taking bookings, cheques please dated 1st October 2022.

28th October 2022 - Supreme Court of the U.K.(4th visit)
Meet at Brighton Station at 0855. Rail to London Bridge arriving 1015. Tube to Westminster then short walk and arriving about 1045. NB there is a small cafe and comfort facilities inside the court after passing through airport style security. You must bring formal ID with you. 1110-1200 Guided tour of the Supreme Court and library. Return rail travel Thameslink only (not Victoria) at any time in groups of 3 or more. Cost £27. 11th November 2022 - City of London Guildhall and various museums on site.
Meet Brighton Station 0915/or Preston Park Station 0920. Arrive London Bridge Station at 1035. Walk 1 mile to Guildhall (30 minutes) or bus half way and walk last 500 yards.
Return rail travel Thameslink only at any time in groups of 3 or more. Not yet fully arranged. Taking reservations.

Booking Conditions
Reservation, Booking & Visit Conditions. Please read all of these terms carefully before paying.
1) To check a visit’s availability, please contact John Colman by phone, email or at the P.P. U3A monthly meeting.
2) Reserving space gives you booking priority. Please pay at least 5 weeks in advance. You will be reminded by email.
3) A booking is only made on receipt of payment. Once booked, payments made are not normally refundable.
4) Payment by cheque payable to “Preston Park U3A no. 2”. Please ask about bank transfers. Cash not accepted.
5) All reservations and bookings are made on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are not issued in advance.
6) Visits by coach are number limited; most other visits are not. If bus travel is used, please bring a bus pass or pay.
7) Reservations, bookings & payments will always be acknowledged. Final details will be emailed a week before a visit.
8) If you are likely to be away or out of contact in the 6 to 8 weeks before the visit, please pay before you go away.
9) Visits are for P.P. U3A members only but, at the group leader’s discretion, others may be invited to attend to fill spaces.
10) If a visit is cancelled or materially changed, we hope to refund your payment but this cannot be guaranteed.
11) There are often late withdrawals so it is worth asking to be on “stand-by” for fully booked visits.
