A Message From the Co-Ordinator of the Antiques & Collectables Group
Are there any U3A members out there who have interesting collections that they would like to share with us at one of our meetings? This is not a plea to join our group (although we could accept one more) but more to help us expand our range of interest and they, in turn, could benefit from viewing some contributions from within our group.
Our meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month, from 10:30 to 12:30.
If interested please contact me (details in Newsletter)
This group meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 10.30.
We are a small group with possibly a misleading title.
We do not have a great knowledge of antiques, but do have an interest in reasonably old items with a history.
We choose a subject each month and try to find something that the rest of the group might like to see and hear about. In that way many fascinating items have appeared.
For instance: “Holidays” produced postcards from the beginning of the last century, “Royalty” produced some extremely interesting personal stories and “Jewellery” some beautiful family heirlooms.
Information gleaned from the Internet often provides further interesting material to the subject.
Some of our meetings are visits to museums which seem much more creative with their exhibits than they were years ago.
A highlight was the Great Bed of Ware and being told about it’s history, what materials it was made of and how they actually got it into the museum.
Our meetings are informative and enjoyable, although as we said at the beginning, none of us are experts on antiques
