Book Circle 7
Book Circle 7
This group normally meets on the forth Thursday, at 2.30 pm in a members' home: the venue being rotated to spread the load. There are currently four vacancies.
Our meetings end with one member, in turn, choosing the subject for the next meeting. Those choices are wilfully eclectic. A recent subject was "anything published in an English translation from another language", which offered individual choices all the way from Homer to the Inspector Montalbano crime novels.
Other choices have included - science fiction; the social history of the Regency period and other 19th century literature; biographies; mysteries, etc. Each member brings an offering which might be poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction. Choices vary hugely but are always apt and often new to the rest of us. They, and the discussions between and afterwards, are hugely enjoyable and rewarding. No one is forced to read something they don't enjoy and yet, in the choices of subject, we are each at times taken out of our comfort zones and into unfamiliar literary territory: educational in the very best sense.
