Mindfulness is concerned with living in the present, not obsessed with yesterday's regrets nor with tomorrow's fears. Each meeting will contain a meditation, an examination of an aspect of mindfulness and a discussion. All members of the group are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
There was a good sized uptake for this new group for 2019-20, showing that there was a desire for a group of this nature. The sessions for a four part structure covering what is the nature of Mindfulness, what are the techniques developed to explore and practice Mindfulness, a period of meditation along these lines, and a period of discussion.
The topics covered in Mindfulness included the effects of stress in everyday life and the resulting reduced performance, the practice of self compassion in our well being and the power of curiosity, being gentle with ourselves as we would train a puppy, the concept of multi-tasking and efficient attention switching, distraction and procrastination, managing the emotions, and the way compassion for others flows from self compassion.
The meditations also included the "body scan", breathing techniques, cultivating curiosity, "training the puppy" to cope with wandering attentions, self compassion, and Loving Kindness.
The interruption caused by the national lock-down due to the covid-19 pandemic was partially dealt with by emailing meditations via audio MP3 files.
