Mindfulness is concerned with living in the present, not obsessed with yesterday's regrets nor with tomorrow's fears. Each meeting contains a meditation, an examination of an aspect of mindfulness and a discussion. All members of the group are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
The group had a successful 2022-3 season with a steady attendance. The format for each meeting has been to take a topic related to Mindfulness, then before the meeting to listen to up to four recommended talks on the internet (usually TED talks) or to do some individual research on that topic. At the meeting the topic has then been discussed using the preparatory study as a starting point and moving on to a wide-ranging discussion. We have usually concluded the meeting with a short guided meditation.
The topics last year were a general overview of mindfulness as an introduction, self-esteem, procrastination, ageism, managing stress and anger. At our final meeting we had a visit from representatives of the Mental Wellbeing charity Mindspace who led a very interesting session.
