Fortingall Hills Walk

Start Point 110m (361 feet), Highest Point 710m (2329 feet), Distance 20.8 km (12.92 miles), Total Ascent 1023m (3356 feet), Time taken 7hrs 14m

The forecast was not promising with potential heavy showers all day and a lower level walk was agreed. Eight members travelled to Fortingall (one car left at Keltneyburn) and we started at the east side of the bridge over Allt Odhar. The tracks climbs skirting Meall Crumach and beyond giving great views of the southern slopes of Schiehallion. Having successfully crossed the river, we had time to explore Uamh Tom A’ Mhor Fhir (a small but rare limestone cave), river gorge and several shielings. Our return took us along Glean More (with several waterfalls looking good with the recent rainfall) and rejoining a track SE. The track passes Pheiginn bothy (small but well kept) eventually finishing at Keltneyburn having past through the Nature Reserve with an impressive deep gorge.

Well-earned refreshment were taken at The Fortingall Hotel
