2018-12b Killiecrankie circuit Walk
Lowest Point 93 m (305 feet), Highest Point 149 m (489 feet), Distance 14.7 km (9.13 miles), Time taken 4hrs 52m
Initially we had planned to go to Loch Brandy, but strong gusty winds were forecast for higher exposed ground, so instead we agreed to finish the year with a sheltered walk from Pitlochry to Killicrankie circling Loch Faskally. Seven members enjoyed a pleasant walk first crossing the loch by the Clunie footbridge to follow the Foss road examining the Priest/Chapel stone on the way. Across the Tummel on Victoria bridge to Linn of Tummel where a lade and tunnel forming a fish pass was inspected. Continuing on we crossed the Garry and turned upstream to enjoy an early lunch overlooking the Soldiers Leap. En route the railway viaduct masonry revealed a small face carved in the stone. We retraced our steps to the Garry bridge, then continued back to Pitlochry. Shorter than our usual outings, but suitable for New Years Eve, finishing off with scones at Birnam Post Office.
