Botanical illustration is a lovely combination of art and science, and involves making true and lifelike depictions of plants. It is an enjoyable way to get to know plants as well developing artistic techniques. We welcome beginners as well as those with some experience of drawing and painting. All you need to start with is a love of plants. The main media we use are pencil, coloured pencil, watercolour, and pen and ink. We are predominantly a practical illustration group illustrating plants from living specimens, but we also learn some history and botany along the way.
In 2022-23, we enjoyed a lovely year with some continuing members and several new people joining, eleven of us altogether. Everyone made progress and there was some brilliant work in pencil, watercolour, coloured pencil, and pen and ink with subjects ranging from spring blossoms to plants in winter, from Scottish wild-flowers to exotic plants from California.
