We aim to explore a range of Family History sources in order to move the research of our members forward. We also share our expertise to help us all move forward.
Despite different ancestral goals and experience, the willingness of members of the group to share stories and to help each other with useful suggestions are a feature at each Group meeting. Some of the members make use of outside facilities such as the A K Bell Local Studies group, the Perth Registrars office, the Mitchell library in Glasgow, Family History Societies (Aberdeen, Fife and Lanarkshire groups), the MOOC Genealogy course run by Strathclyde University and the Pharos course run from Utah. This quest for additional knowledge enabled several to improve their methodology and knowledge of family history research.
One member circulated a number of the popular ‘Who do you think you are’ magazines and this contribution really acted as a catalyst for those wishing to date old photographs, improve their filing and storage of family history documents and gain ideas into how to read graveyard inscriptions.
