We meet to read plays chosen by the group, and on average we read 2 or 3 plays per year. Everyone has the opportunity to read by dint of rotating the Dramatis Personae from the play during each meeting. This also enables us to listen to the script so that we can develop an understanding of the plot and the individual characters. Short pauses between scenes or acts allow for comment which can lead to pretty lively, and often hilarious, discussions.
This past season we have read 2 plays: "Measure for Measure" and "Antony and Cleopatra". These have encouraged some very lively discussions about the characters and the plot. Some members attended cinema live-screenings of Shakespeare plays. Next season we will be reading 'The Tempest' and Love's Labours Lost'
