The present group has been in existence since January 2015. Each year we choose a theme and members contribute with presentations based on their reading around the subject or research into it.
Our chosen themes in the past season were ‘The Romans in Perthshire’ and ‘The early railways of Perthshire’. Group members had the opportunity to work on one or other of these themes, led by a member (or members) with a special interest. Our meetings have allowed for sharing of the work undertaken – often via the medium of PowerPoint presentations.
An innovation last session, which has continued in 2018-19, was the ‘Archaeology in the news’ slot in which we have delved into stories with an archaeological slant currently featuring in the news media.
We have yet to decide on our themes for next session. One suggestion is to learn about Medieval Perth, its guilds and the monastic houses of Perth. Other ideas are also being considered. We are always glad to welcome new members and from now on we shall be meeting in Perth U3A’s room at the Business Centre in the National Christian Centre Annexe adjacent to Dewar’s Ice Rink.
