We cater for those who enjoy the challenge of the outdoors with the views and forays into hinterlands less frequented. We choose routes depending very much on the wishes and interests of group members, and planning is flexible to encompass the vagaries of the Scottish weather.
During the summer months, we expect most outings will be 8 miles or more and include a reasonably strenuous climb, sometimes Munros. During winter months, our outings are closer to home and would seldom include Munros.
Whatever the season, waterproof jacket and trousers, and footwear for all kinds of ground conditions is essential. We also expect walkers to be reasonably knowledgeable of map reading and have some experience of the hills and be willing to make suggestions for future walks.
The 2018 -19 session was a good one. Membership at the start was 10, increased to 12 and has finished with 11. No walks were cancelled this session, venues being adapted to prevailing weather conditions and numbers attending were a regular core of 5-7 members, with a max of 9 in January. Group members have willingly participated in putting forward suggested routes, in sharing the co-ordinating of outings, providing summaries of the days event and offering photos.
